Central Dalmatia
Dalmatia stretches on the southern coast of Croatia, the central part of which - Central Dalmatia - is administratively managed by the Split-Dalmatia County. In addition to the coast, it also consists of several larger islands such as Brač and Hvar and part of the interior of Croatia. A holiday in Central Dalmatia is most often associated with the sea and the beach. The popular Makarska Riviera and Split Riviera are part of this the area. A holiday on the Makarska Riviera is a symbol of a great beach, lively resort, busy lifestyle, and plenty of opportunities for sports activities. It extends over a section of 60 km between the towns of Brela and Gradac. The center of the Makarska Riviera is the area around the city of Makarska, where there is a sandy beach with a length of 2 km and a very lively activity in the resorts. The perfect holiday for the children is in the Promajna area, where there are many small, quiet bays with sandy beaches and excellent hotel complexes. Podgora is nicknamed the pearl of the Adriatic Sea, and stretches on the slopes of Mount Biokovo, thanks to which you can discover beautiful nature, forests, beaches and the crystal-clear sea. Likewise, a holiday in other locations of the Makarska Riviera, such as Baška Voda, Drvenik, Brela, Tučepi and others, will offer great beaches with opportunities for water sports, cruises and tours to the surrounding islands. The Split Riviera, on the other hand, offers a rich repertoire of natural beauties and historical monuments. The city of Split is the capital of Dalmatia and the second largest city in Croatia. In this area, an ideal holiday is combined with a visit to numerous mansions and monuments. For example, Klis, Gomilica, Marina is impressive. One of the historically oldest towns of the Mediterranean is Trogir, which is known for its beautiful castle and diversity with preserved walls. Near the city of Split is located the islands of Brač and Hvar, which are known for their impressive island beauty - hills, pine trees, fig trees, bays with clear sea close proximity behind picturesque towns. A holiday on these islands is one of the most popular on the Adriatic Sea.
Central Dalmatia is the most popular holiday region in Croatia, and you will find here a variety of accommodation that will satisfy all your needs. Apartments by the sea are the ideal choice if you want to enjoy the beauty of the Dalmatian coast. With monuments of ancient Roman architecture, beautiful pebble beaches and untouched nature, Central Dalmatia is a destination that allows you to relax and enjoy the culture that is all around you.
Central Dalmatia, together with its islands, is generally considered to be the most beautiful area of the Eastern Adriatic, and many of its loyal visitors even claim that it is the most beautiful seaside area in the world, due to the unique harmony of nature and the creations of human hands. Many of the local resorts have an old tradition of seaside recreation, mostly dating back to the period after the First World War. Dalmatian beaches are famous due to a combination of coarse sand and smaller pebbles, which most visitors say is more pleasant than the stony beaches of Istria.
The sea is perfectly clean on the entire Central Dalmatian coast and on the islands, and thanks to the light substrate, especially in the area of the Makarska Riviera, it often enchants with its azure blue color. It is very suitable for diving, snorkeling, and other water sports. The coast is mostly lined with pine, cypress or pine groves and bushes that bloom all summer, underscoring the idyllic atmosphere of the beaches. Many beaches are proud of the "blue flag" certificate, which is awarded to the cleanest sea beaches by the international non-profit organization Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE). Most local resorts offer beaches with gradual entry into the water so small children and non-swimmers will find an almost ideal environment here. In larger resorts, there are places where paid beach service is provided, bars, sanitary facilities, showers, restaurants, sports fields, and children's playgrounds are available. Overall, however, unmaintained public beaches predominate, where you can bring anything but these do not have sanitary facilities. In some remote places, you can also find naturist beaches, which have a long tradition here.
